7 Tips for Financial Caregivers

7 Tips for Financial Caregivers 7 Tips for Financial Caregivers 7 Tips for Financial CaregiversTaking over the finances from an elderly relative can be difficult, so here is some expert advice to help you navigate that delicate process. We recently wrote about an uncomfortable conversation you may need to have one day when you may have an elderly relative who will need you to take an active role in their finances. They may not agree that you need to take an active role in their finances, however, which is where the awkwardness of the conversation would likely come in. We already covered the best way to start that conversation and navigate it in a sensitive manner, but even if it goes well, that’s only the beginning.Being a financial caregiver can be difficult, stressful, and emotionally draining. But you can also take some satisfaction in helping someone you love to survive in their old age. Here are some tips to manage a role you may not have expected to ever take on.1. Try to be a partner.Being a financial caregiver will be less stressful for b oth you and the person you’re assisting if you don’t try to take on more control than is necessary.“The objective of parent-adult child eldercare conversations is to encourage mutually responsible partnerships,” advised Joy Loverde (@joyloverde), author of The Complete Eldercare Planner. “Partnering with, rather than parenting our parents, is the desired approach.“As long as our parents remain mentally able to make their own decisions, we must appreciate the limits of the parent-child relationship. Many adult children have learned the hard way that attempts to impose their opinions, values, and authority on their parents will begin a downward spiral in the communication process, leading to a breakdown in the relationship.“When we focus our conversation style on influencing parents to seek and accept help from others, and keep them accountable for their own choices, they can remain true to their independent ideals.”2. Get all your legal ducks in a row.Managing legal d ocuments can be confusing and stressful even when you have them all in front of you. The more documents are missing, the less manageable the task becomes.“Make sure your relative has all of their legal documents in place,” recommended Renee Fry, Co-Founder and CEO of Gentreo (@Gentreo).“For instance, you need a power of attorney to be able to make financial decisions for the person you are helping. Without one, you can not access or transfer funds or even pay medical or other bills.Make sure your older relative also has a health care proxy so important decisions can be made on care or even where care can be provided.”3. Act in their interests.Do you want to be a caregiver or a caretaker? Wait … those actually mean similar things. How is that possible? Whatever, the point is you should try to act along with the desires of the person you’re looking after.“Understand their intentions,” Holly Wolf, Director of Customer Engagement for SOLO Laboratories (@SOLO_labs) told u s. “What is it they are trying to do with their money? Is it making it last until they die? Creating a legacyâ€"for whom and why? Is it enjoying the money they have now?If you think they should be spending and they prefer to save, you need to understand their objectives.”4. Look out for scams. While you want to try and follow the elderly person’s wishes as closely as possible, the very fact that they need a financial caregiver means that they won’t always be able to make the right choices. That means you might need to act against their wishes in instances where you recognize that they’re likely being scammed.“Make sure your elderly relative is not taken advantage of by scams or criminals who are trying to trick them into writing checks, transferring money, etc.,” warned Fry. “Set limits on spending, or require your relative to ask you first if they want to write a check or take money out of the bank.”5. Keep a close watch.Looking out for scams means keeping tabs on your elder, especially if they’re doing any financial tasks online.“Monitor financial information and online usage,” urged Matt Dworetsky, president of Dworetsky Financial (@MDworetsky). “Depending on the situation, you should be involved in the financial management of your loved one.As people age and lose the ability to manage their own finances, they become more vulnerable to fraud. Many seniors fall victim to expensive online scams. Talk with your loved one about the importance of working together in this area to make sure everyone is protected.”6. Seek help. There’s no reason you should have to deal with this responsibility alone.“Have another person involved,” recommended Wolf. “All of the people I have helped (aunt/uncle, inlaws, great aunt, parent) use an accountant that is unrelated to me. That way they have another set of eyes reviewing things to be sure Im not doing anything wrong.”7. Don’t forget your own finances. In order to be a good financial careg iver, you need to have your own financial house in order.“Your financial security comes first,” advised Dworetsky. “Do not put your future and security on the line while taking care of a loved one or you will jeopardize both of your lives if a financial emergency happens and you can’t care for either of you. Make sure you are always putting money into your savings and retirement accounts.”It’s an important task you’ve taken on. Hopefully, these tips will make it an easier one. What Is a Graduate School Scholarship And Why Didn’t I Get One

This time of year is the most popular time for students to start asking questions about scholarships. Admission notifications have gone out for most graduate programs, and offers related to financial aid packages, admissions-based scholarships, and teaching positions quickly follow. For many recent admits, the moment of admission initiates a series of raw moments in which the financial realities of higher education truly set in. During my four years as a Student Affairs Advisor at the UCLA Scholarship Resource Center, I learned that as incoming students decide which school to attend, the month of April becomes the month of answering endless questions like: â€Å"What is a scholarship? And why didn’t I get one?† Answering the big scholarship questions Both of these questions are incredibly hard to answer in a quick phone call, or even in a blog post, partially because the answers to these questions do not resolve the ultimate problem: a university education of any kind costs money (a lot of it). There is no way around this fact in the United States’ system of higher education. Most scholarships fit into a broad category of funding opportunities that are created by individuals, institutions, or organizations that wish to fund certain individuals to pursue particular educational goals. These opportunities vary based on the type of desired candidates, specific donor requests, limitations based on organizational bureaucracies, eligibility requirements, application materials, and related funding plans. Adjusting your scholarship expectations If individuals who wish to receive scholarships do not put the effort in to identify and apply for scholarship opportunities outside of the regular admissions process, it is unlikely that they will win any. Given the diverse functions of graduate programs, the story of funding for graduate students from within the university context varies dramatically among programs and institutions. For the most part, students are expected to pay for non-PhD programs with their own resources. Those in PhD programs are expected to teach for the university in exchange for tuition waivers and a limited living stipend. While it is true that most graduate programs offer a few admissions-based scholarships that are directly related to each university program, these opportunities are incredibly rare. Yet, many students are surprised to realize this upon admission. Every year, students are accepted to their top choice schools, and quickly crushed with the realization that they have to pay full price because their dream schools did not provide a merit-based scholarship upon admission. It can feel like the university is saying, â€Å"Yes! But actually, no.† Getting accepted does not equal getting a scholarship Over and over again my colleagues and I have heard distraught students and families exclaim: â€Å"But I’ve worked so hard! I thought I would get a scholarship.† â€Å"I qualified for financial aid as an undergraduate, why doesn’t this help me for graduate school?† We’ve even heard: â€Å"But I got a ‘full ride’ at another university, why didn’t I get one to go to my top choice?† And we get our fair share of: â€Å"Just because we’re not minorities doesn’t mean we can afford the full cost of graduate school. It’s not fair.† In today’s competitive frenzy for admission to the country’s most sought after public and private schools, students often feel that if they are good enough to get in, that means they should also be â€Å"good enough† to receive a scholarship. But this is simply an incorrect assumption. Being a competitive applicant is what grants you acceptance to a university in the first place, but it is not what gets you a scholarship. And to answer the last question, belonging to an underserved community is not the magic key to earning a scholarship either. What qualifies a student for a scholarship? The simple answer to this question is: The students who are most qualified to win scholarships are those who actively apply for lots of scholarships. At a university as desirable as UCLA, for example, very few incoming graduate students are offered merit-based scholarships as a part of the admissions or recruitment process. Every school treats scholarships differently, so there is no secret formula that guarantees that a particular kind of person will receive one. Often the criteria for distributing an admission-based scholarship depend on a number of unique and unpredictable variables. The specific needs of private donors, regional or state quotas, internal administrative initiatives, balanced distribution across the campus’ student population, and market-based endowments, all of which change on an individual and annual basis, determine the pool of qualified candidates for most university funding opportunities and scholarships. Understanding the role of â€Å"merit† in the graduate scholarship landscape Basically â€Å"merit† is never the only factor that admissions committees take into consideration when they approach the potential to distribute university scholarships. In fact, separating candidates on the basis of merit alone would not narrow a candidate pool enough for a committee to begin making objective selections. And in any given year, there’s no way to guess which factors will rank highest on a committee’s list of qualifications and considerations. No matter how smart and accomplished you are, the odds of both getting in to your top choice schools and receiving a scholarship are not in your favor. Rather than depend on the potential to receive merit-based scholarships upon admission to target institutions, students should actively seek out individualized scholarship opportunities while they are applying for school and throughout their time as a student. What do you need to DO to secure funding? Any student’s initial application to a university program should include multiple (I suggest 25+) applications for scholarships outside of the standard process of applying for admission. And this should become a habit that is repeated annually for as long as the student is enrolled in and paying for a university education. Yes, more applications to fill out, more work, more deadlines, and more writing. Of course, this is basically the worst news to deliver during the month of April, when many students’ dreams of admission actually come true, just as they come to terms with the hard-to-swallow financial realities of university life. Expected graduate school costs Currently, the estimated annual cost of tuition fees for California resident graduate students at UCLA is $17,000. For non-resident students at UCLA, the estimated annual cost of attendance is an additional $12,245. Professional degree supplemental tuition (applies to JD, MD, and others) is $23,745 $31,755. Estimated rent: $2325 per month for a one bedroom (taken from UCLA’s estimate of housing within a 5-mile radius of the campus) Estimated meals: $450 per month Annual costs: $44,200 $75,955 Now apply this information to the length and type of your program, add airfare, and consider summer expenses. Most PhDs receive a TA stipend of $15,000 $24,000 per year and that is considered â€Å"full funding.† Have I made the knot in your stomach bigger? Why is applying for graduate school scholarships so hard? I’m prefacing my scholarship blog series with this financial reality because should you decide to start applying for graduate school scholarships, I guarantee that you will repeatedly say to yourself â€Å"this is hard, exhausting, and endlessly overwhelming.† The reasons for this are twofold. First, paying $44,200 $76,000 per year is no joke. Graduate school costs a lot. Second, the people who give away money in the form of scholarships do not spend money or time on making it easy to identify and apply for scholarships. This is not because they want to make your life miserable; it’s because they want to spend their money on your education – not on the marketing, user experience design, or accessibility of their websites, mission statements, and application platforms. So when you start conducting Google searches for â€Å"graduate school scholarships† or â€Å"scholarships for something specific about me,† there will be long lists with expired links. There will be confusing websites that lack clear markers for the location of application materials, eligibility requirements, deadlines, or instructions. There will be un-editable PDFs, incorrect contact information, seemingly arbitrary descriptions of ideal candidates, and my personal favorite: lists of more lists. Most people who make it to this part of the scholarship search process either give up without really getting started or determine that â€Å"there just isn’t anything out there for me.† Like those who depend on receiving admission-based scholarships, the people who give up after a few searches online, or even a few completed applications, just don’t win scholarships. Pretty much every conversation that I have at the Scholarship Resource Center starts with: â€Å"What exactly is a scholarship? And why didn’t I get one?† OR: â€Å"I’ve tried searching for scholarships on the internet, and I think I’m just bad at it. What’s the trick? Is there a list somewhere? How do I find scholarships that I am actually eligible for?† If you are asking one of these questions right now, calm down. Let the reality of the numbers sink in, and accept that finding and winning scholarships takes effort. If you want to receive any money in the form of scholarships, you are going to have to work for it. It will take time. It will be repetitive, tedious, and at times downright discouraging. Step one: know that you can do this! The first step in this process is to develop a mindset that can accept the fact that graduate school costs a lot, and enable you to approach scholarship searches and application processes that are inevitably difficult, inconsistent, and arbitrary. But if you do the work, and incorporate strategic, focused, and consistent processes into your routine as a graduate student, you will be more qualified to receive scholarships than most of your peers. What are those processes you now ask? I’ll cover them in future posts. Do you need help applying for graduate school scholarships? Macroeconomics Research Paper - 2341 Words

Colorado Technical University Research Paper Submitted in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for ECON201 Macroeconomics Colorado Springs, Colorado March 2012 Introduction The economic growth is the process by which per capita income rises over time. Growth theory attempts to model and understand the factors that are behind this process. It is a particularly challenging area of research because growth is extremely uneven in space as well as in time. Over the past millennium, world per capita income increased thirteen-fold, from $435 per person per year around the year 1000 to $5,700 nowadays. This contrasts sharply with the preceding millennia, when there was almost no advance in per capita income. Per capita income†¦show more content†¦Another key determinant of economic growth is demographic (Dilipk, 2004). The economic growth is associated with the increase in the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the country. The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is the value of all final goods and services produced within the economy in a given period of time. The GDP is usually reported with the unemployment and the inflation variables. There are various factors that greatly contribute in enhancing the economic growth in the country. According to the Keynesian approach, there have been identified the four variables that affects the economic growth. These are investment, saving, liberalization of the trading activities, movement of the capital, policy of the exchange rate and the macroeconomic stability of the economy. The investment in the human capital and the physical capital are also one of the factors that fasten the economic growth in the country. The demography is another factor that determines the growth of the economy. However, among these factors, research study has identified other factors that determines and enhance the economic growth. These are role of finance in the economic growth and the role of financial intermediaries in enhancing the economic growth. These factors greatly help in making the process of the economic growth faster. The economic growth is largely associated with the economic development of the country.Show MoreRelatedCorrelation Between Stock Market Returns, Inflation, And Money Growth Essay1621 Words   |  7 Pagessignificant correlation between stock market returns, inflation, and money growth. The Riskless Asset Rate Algorithm Finance Essay - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 6 Words: 1679 Downloads: 1 Date added: 2017/06/26 Category Finance Essay Type Analytical essay Did you like this example? It is known that the analysts use the treasury bills, notes or bonds rates, to define the riskless asset and its rate of return for modeling the capital market by the Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM), portfolio selection and performance analysis, using the Modern Portfolio Theory (MPT). Due to the fact that these securities do not have a continuous market in Romania and it cannot be followed day by day the evolution of their interest rate, I considered as a possible measure for the riskless security rate (a pure interest rate as Sharpe named it) the free risk interest of the Romanian financial market [William Sharpe (1970)]. By definition, the free risk asset is a financial security, consequently for a more accurate measure, I believe that the representative market for the financial market is the inter-banking market. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "The Riskless Asset Rate Algorithm Finance Essay" essay for you Create order I defined several financial securities with equal rate of interest with BUBOR, for the borrowing free risk rate, and BUBID for the lending free risk rate, respectively the Romanian inter-banking market rates for lending or borrowing on a period starting with a day to a year. The daily values of these gathered interests in the Analyze Period (AP) (02.07.2001 -08.07.2003 respectively 2 years, each of 245 transaction days) determined the daily average value and the risk associated with every financial security, measured through variance of return. The free risk security rate of return for lending and respectively borrowing is situated in the risk-return space, on the vertical axe, in the points where the capital market line (CML) represented by two regression lines using the daily average rates of BUBOR and BUBID interests, intersects it. In order to point out the fact that the values are valid on the market, in this paper I compared, in the risk-return coordinates, free risk s ecurities thus determined, with currency securities EURO and DOLAR, and also with BET-C synthetic capital asset. I applied in several studies this method for calculating the free risk rate determined in the Romanian inter-banking market and all the results where accurate, providing dates confirmed by the subsequent market trend. . The riskless asset rate algorithm In order to measure the rikless security interest rate, or the pure interest, I will use the daily dates collected from the Romanian inter-banking market in the AP period and I will define financial synthetic assets, which will be the benchmark within the algorithm. To make the comparison of these rates with the similar rates on the secondary capital market, I will rely on capital market specifically analyze tools, expected return measured by the average rate of return and the risk measured by the variance or by the standard deviation of return. The financial securities which I will define will have the equal rate of return with the BUBID and BUBOR interest rates. The riskless financial security rate was determined throughout financial securities with equal return with the following rates: BUBOR TN, BUBOR 1W, BUBOR 1M, BUBOR 3M, BUBOR 6M, BUBOR 9M, BUBOR 12M and respectively BUBID TN, BUBID1W, BUBID 1M, BUBID 3M, BUBID 6M, BUBID 9M, BUBID 12M. In other words, I used the Roman ian inter-banking market rates for lending or borrowing on a period starting with a day to a year. These rates will represent the benchmark for the rikless rate. At the same time, we consider that the market provides a continuous possibility to lend and borrow, and BUBID ON and BUBOR ON are the representatives rates in the market. The inter-banking market is the representative market for the entire monetary market and includes the risk less security. In the same time, Sharpe defines the riskless asset as a financial security. The investors which will hold positive amounts will lend. Others will hold negative amounts; they will borrow. The total value of riskless securities issued by the borrowers will equal the total value purchased by the lenders. For the daily rates calculation BUBORt or BUBIDt, in the analyze period (AP) accordingly with the stock exchange transaction days, I used the following formula: _Ec. 1ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹Å"1 where: is the a nnual rate of return on a day by day basis. Next, we define as a measure of the financial securities risk in the inter-banking market, the standard deviation of return of those assets. The same measure was used by Tobin. [Tobin (1967)]. In table 1-1 we can observe that these assets have a different value from zero risk. In order to determine the riskless asset average rate of return, we will go to make the next judgment. Free risk rate is actually the rate of return of a financial security which has, by definition, a zero risk. But for placing it in the risk-return coordinates, this security must have a zero standard deviation and the rate of return situated on CML (considering that the market is in equilibrium) similarly with the financial assets described previously (BUBOR and BUBID) . We also know that BUBID rate defines a passive interest rate, paid by a bank for the attracted deposits, but from the financial investor point of view, BUBID can be considered as the lending rate of return. The average BUBID rates will determine the riskless lending rate (RFRd). The average BUBOR rates can be calculated using the daily BUBOR rates, which are active interest rates, received by a bank for a granted credit, or for a financial investor BUBOR is the borrowing rate of return. The average BUBOR rates will determine the riskless borrowing rate (RFRi).In conclusion BUBOR and BUBID rates will be used as benchmark for the values RFRd and respectively RFRi. In the MPT, borrowing means the issuance of financial securities, whereas lending means purchasing those securities. Consequently the lender is an investor that purchases the riskfree asset, whereas the borrower is issuing the riskless security. In the lending case, we will consider the free risk asset as a deposit with an equal rate of return with the pure interest rate RFRd, and a zero standard deviation of return. In the issuing case, the free risk security is a borrowing with an estimated rate of return RFRi, and likewise the risk, measured by the standard deviation of return, has a zero value. Holding the riskless financial security, or purchasing it, means a positive proportion in the lender portfolio. For the borrowing riskless rate (RFRi) I obtained a value of 0,086% for the daily average rate, and 23,44% for the annual value. The values and the calculation method can be observed in figure 1-1. To determine the RFRd value I constructed a regression line (CML) for the BUBOR daily average rates of return, and for RFRi value a second regression line for the BUBID daily average rates of return. The values of the riskfree rate are presented also in the equations of the two CML lines. _Ec.-1.2 In _Ec-1.2 is written the general equation for CML, where Rp is y from the figure 1.1, RFRi equals 0,086%, =66,21% and x is and similarly for the second line. . BET-C capital asset, and the currency assets EURO and DOLAR In order to realize a comparison of the free risk rate of return with other financial assets rates, I defined, in the same frame of risk-return coordinates, two currency assets: EURO and DOLAR. The rate of return of these two securities was determined by adding the return of the exchange rate evolution and the BUBID ON rate of interest (Ec. 2-1). In other words, we considered that the currency market is liquid, there are no transactions costs, and the financial securities find immediate the investment possibility. In our case, once there where transactions, DOLAR and EURO assets will be lend at a BUBID ON rate. Figure. 2ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹Å"2 The daily rates of return of EURO and DOLAR where calculated as follows: _Ec. 2ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹Å"2 where : is the daily rate ROL/EURO Table 2.1 shows the values for the rates of return and risk obtained for the AP period. For the analyze period AP, its average annual rate of return is 58,76%, and the annual standard deviation is 23,31%. Analyzing figure 3-1 and 1-1 we can conclude that the currency assets have a greater risk than the monetary assets BUBOR and BUBID, but in the same time less then BET-C, the representative for the capital market portfolio. Conclusion The method described above, for determining the riskless rate of return on a emerging capital market as the Romanian market is, provides a rapid and exact measure and can be successfully used in the portfolio analyze and selection and for evaluation of portfolio performance. The free risk rate method generates in the same time the lending riskless rate and the borrowing free risk rate, both used by the CAPM analysts for determining the efficient portfolio. We demonstrated using the risk-return space that the currency assets EURO and DOLAR have a greater return than the riskless asset and the monetary assets BUBOR and BUBID and less than BET-C. But in the same time they have a greater risk than the monetary assets and less than BET-C. That is in fact the case in any functioning capital market: the financial securities are safer, but with less expected return than the capital assets. This algorithm was applied for the capital market analyse I realised for the philosophe doctor deg ree thezis.[Adrian NiÃÆ'†¦Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ £u (2004)]. Factors That Go Into Making A Healthy And Thriving...

There are many key factors that go into making a healthy and thriving ministry. One can picture ministry as a car engine were all the parts and gears are moving together to reach its destination. If one of the parts or gears fails, the car is going to have a hard time getting to where it needs to be. One of the most important key factors to making a healthy ministry would to insure proper communication between all staff members in your ministry. If any communication links are broken, it can have a devastating impact on the relationships between staff members, making it hard to work and grow as a team. Ethical Dilemma While the senior pastor was on vacation for a week, it was up to the ministry team to run the Sunday morning service. This would be the first time the senior pastor has been gone for this long and having the ministry run solo on all areas in ministry for this week. All was going perfectly that is until the actual service on Sunday. A member of our ministry leader team had said somethings to members of the church at really upset some of them. We decided for the best interest of the service, that we finished the service and dealt with the situation once the senior pastor returned from his vacation. As one of the witnesses to the instant I decided to write a email to the senior pastor that I would like to sit down and talk to him about what took place when he was gone. Love and Logic Philosophy Free Essays

Benson, Galbraith, and Espeland, (1995) defines love and logic as a philosophy concerned with raising children in such a way that makes both the teachers and students more satisfied and contented, empowered, skilled and able to relate in a mutually beneficial manner that allows for the students to learn in a free environment.   The philosophy ensures that, adults demonstrate enough love to children which in turn makes the children to feel freer and at ease in the learning process.   This is very important to a learning environment. We will write a custom essay sample on Love and Logic Philosophy or any similar topic only for you Order Now Benson, Galbraith, and Espeland, (1995) notes that, a learning environment should be devoid of barriers such as noise barrier, communication barriers and also psychological barriers such as the negative relations between teachers and children. The incidences of disruptive behaviour from school children has been on the increase for the past few decades yet the education system has either been unresponsive to the emerging challenges or the educators and policy makers have been totally aloof to the situation.   This has led to a lot of children dropping out of schools and therefore disrupting their lives.   This has had other far reaching consequences such as that; the children who discontinue studies may end up engaging in criminal activities.   For the teachers, the above trends have led to special challenges in that, the public expects them to deliver oblivious of the unique classroom difficulties. As Benson, Galbraith, and Espeland, (1995) notes, indiscipline negatively affects the learning environment and therefore an undisciplined class is more likely to perform poorly than a disciplined class. According to (Cline, Fay, 1990), America has experienced a significant increase in disruptive behaviour in school going children such as; violence, intolerable behavior, as well as substance misuse.   In a study carried out by (Benson, Galbraith, Espelland, 1995), it was found out that punishment, does not actually reduce cases of classroom indiscipline but on the contrary, it causes an increase in indiscipline incidences.   All the above led to combined efforts to find a solution for the increasing cases of indiscipline and ultimately resulted in the experimentation of the love and logic philosophy which was rather correctional approach as opposed to a punitive one (Finn, 1989).   The love and logic philosophy holds that, children can succeed in the classroom for as long as the teacher shows compassion, demonstrates tolerance. This leads to the children to connect compassion and love to logical consequences (Finn, 1989). In a study of 270,000 students carried out by   Benson, Galbraith, and Espeland, (1995) found out that criminal behaviour, academic failure and substance abuse are easily avoidable by applying the principles of love and logic. Such principles include, supportive and loving family and school environment, a positive relationship between children and adults, high achievement and motivation, good communication between parents and children as well as decision making skills and optimism about the world and the children’s future.   All the above are developmental concerns which a teacher can address in the classroom. In another study by (Weir, 1997) which involved the implementation of love and logic program in an elementary level, the results overwhelmingly pointed to the effectiveness of the love and logic philosophy.   After implementation teachers were required to give feedback on some variables.   It was reported that, 87% of teachers experienced an improvement in student behavior, 84% noted experiencing improved relationships with students, 68% reported that as a result of the love and logic program, student disruptions had significantly decreased, 71% noted getting time for more teaching as a result of decreased disruptions, while 82% noted that, discipline had improved and they felt that they were in charge of the classroom. When adults demonstrate love, the children feel less threatened and are therefore more likely to learn in unthreatening environment whereby the children are not afraid of making mistakes (Cline, Fay, 1990).   Through logic, children are empowered to accept the consequences of their actions as well as decisions and are therefore more likely to cope with consequences arising out of the choices the children make. According to (Cline, Fay, 1990), love and logic are a prerequisite for a working relationship amongst teachers, children and parents in which the parents and teachers take control over the children and their actions.   Love and logic are very important to teachers in that, they give the teacher the necessary control needed in classroom environment for learning to take place effectively.   The logic and love philosophy instills in children a sense of responsibility which is crucial especially when it comes to learning activities which teachers assign to children such as assignments and homework. With a more disciplined class, the teacher is more likely to gain control over the class and therefore become more efficient in delivery of the subject content.   Love and logic, are important for teachers in that, besides passing knowledge, teachers act as caregivers and are mandated to ensure that the students learn life’s skills such as social skills and decision making which are important in bringing up responsible and disciplined children. This goes a long way in making sure that, when the children come out of school, they do not have difficulties in coping with the outside world.   (Benson, Galbraith, Espelland, 1995) notes that, logic and love is a good alternative for counselling with the added advantages such as the fact that; logic and love approaches are realistic, simple and easy for the children to learn (Bandura, 1977).   Logic and love has been noted as one of the few philosophies which do not depend on age in that, children of all ages can learn important life skills even at a very tender age. Therefore teaching using the logic and love approach allows a learner to gain in the maximum way possible due to the usually close ties with the teacher. The teachers as well benefit mutually in that, the self direction the student demonstrates is an empowerment in the classroom and it allows the learner to grow up into better citizen ready to face the future challenges which lie ahead of the students once they leave the classrooms. Love and logic takes into consideration teacher and student relations by encouraging the two parties to connect easily. By enforcing the concept of self, shared control, shared thinking as well as empathy and consequences, logic and love as a philosophical approach of teaching results into a well rounded child who proceed to the outside world ready to meet the numerous challenges and able are to overcome (Bandura, 1977). Love and logic, results into a classroom environment in which the culture is that of; self determination, self dedication, self discipline as well as self empowerment for the children.   On the other side, the teachers are able to execute their professional duties with zeal and in total confidence that the objectives and goals of learning will be achieved. Conclusion Love and logic philosophy is grounded in the belief that every child has positive traits and has the potential to grow and develop into useful and resourceful members of the society.   The children learn in a non-confrontational environment and are able to relate well to the teacher.   It saves time which otherwise goes into solving indiscipline cases. For the school, logic and love saves valuable time and it is easy for the school to improve on performance.   Love and logic is a very effective approach in dealing with disruptive students who threaten the smooth learning in the classroom.   When such children are shown love, care, concern and patience, they easily transform and are capable of reforming and are very likely to become some of the best and cooperative students in the classroom.
